New thyroid formula is ‘good quality’
Medicine safety agency ANSM has confirmed the ‘good quality’ of a new, controversial formula of the thyroid drug Levothyrox after doing its own analysis of it.
Levothyrox - manufactured by laboratory Merck - is the most widely-used treatment option for patients suffering from thyroid conditions, which can cause weight gain, depression, circulation problems, coldness and extreme fatigue.
The new formula has been contested by patient association l’Association Française des Malades de la Thyroïde which has reported many complaints and says it is ineffective and causes side effects including headaches and dizziness.
