Nice to New York flight makes emergency landing in Paris

A Delta Air Lines flight between Nice and New York was forced to make an emergency landing less than two hours after taking off from the French city. 

The DL9888 flight, which left Nice on Wednesday (August 21) morning, began emitting emergency signal 7700 shortly after taking off. 

The plane – a Boeing aircraft – subsequently landed at Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport, without having left French airspace. 

The exact reason for the grounding is unknown, but the airline told French media Actu that the plane was landed due to “excessive caution following a technical incident.” 

Emergency signal 7700 is used for general emergencies, and is not linked to a specific issue. However, it is used to let air control towers nearby know that the plane is experiencing a serious problem. 

Nobody was injured during the incident.
