Orange bills hiked

SEVERAL readers report being caught out by Orange’s Contact+ scheme that we warned about recently.

One, Keith Reynolds-Butler, said he was “horrified” to find his usual €42 bill had jumped to €72 due to being charged for supposedly visiting a site called Meteovilles.

He had no recollection of doing so. Orange customer services promised to make enquiries about a refund.

To recap, Contact+ is a scheme whereby websites can charge users of Orange internet for certain services, or just for accessing certain content, at a fee related to time spent looking at it which is added to your Orange bill.

They are supposed to draw your attention to the scheme and you should have to click to accept the arrangement but it appears this is not being done systematically. If you wish to simply turn off such services, sign in to your personal space on www.orange.fr

Click on Mes contrats, then Contrat internet, then under Internet you need to click Paramétrer mes services, then click Modifier under Paiement en ligne avec Contact+ and then Désactiver and then click on Valider.
