A luxury riverside home is for sale in France with a fitting look for its setting - it is built in the shape of a large yacht.
The house, in Moisson, Yvelines department, was built in 2008 by a couple who loved sailing, but who did not have a boat of their own.
Yohan Filippi, of Le Club de Immo agency, which is handling the sale, said: “The owners told us they had some great sailing holidays and experiences and so that was the brief they gave to the architect when they decided to build their own house.”
“Initially, the couple thought that their children would move into the ‘boat house’ while they retired to something smaller in the south, but the children do not want to live in it, so they decided to put it up for sale.”
The house backs onto the river Seine, which loops around the village. The owners have all the necessary permissions to build a jetty for a boat, but despite being such sailing fans, did not do so.
Giverny, the village famous for Claude Monet’s house and garden museum, is on the other side of the river.
The property, which is an hour from Paris on departmental roads, also has a 6,000m2 garden designed and maintained by professional gardeners, which includes a pétanque court.
Inside, the nautical theme continues with a ‘bridge’ mezzanine overlooking the main living room, used as a dining room.
