An historic French tower - with four bedrooms, located in a rural, wooded area - is for sale for €99,000, offering intrepid owners the chance to live in a truly unusual property.
The tower was originally used to help protect the Château de Nogentel in Esternay (Marne) in north-eastern France and dates back to the 19th Century. The seller also owns the chateau, which is 500 metres away, and will keep the chateau after the tower’s sale.
The €99,000 price tag includes part of the chateau grounds, a wooded area, a 50 m2 house, and a well.
The current owner bought the tower 10 years ago, with a view to converting it into a guesthouse for visiting friends.
At 24 metres high, the partially-converted property already has four bedrooms and a chimney, and interior ceilings of up to three metres. The total living space is 39m2.
Yet, the owner says that he was unable to finish the project due to professional reasons, and is now selling.
“There is work to do, but it’s a great starting point,” he said.
The tower is not connected to mains power, but the owner maintains that this is possible. Similarly, the property needs updating for long-term living, such as the installation of double glazing.
Any new owners will almost certainly want to make this change, not only to improve insulation but also to shield the property from the noise of the nearby Route Nationale 4.
The tower is being marketed by estate agency Safti, and listed on website Leboncoin.fr. Anyone interested can contact estate agent Fabien Hémard through the site.
