Approval ratings for French President Emmanuel Macron are the lowest since he became head of the country in 2017, according to a new poll from the statistics group Elabe.
The president received an approval rating of 22%, lower than during the gilets jaunes crisis (when it hovered at 23%). This is down 5% compared to two months ago.
The president’s decision to call snap legislative elections this summer and a sense of decline in public services are among the main reasons cited for the historic low.
Around 72% of French voters ‘do not have confidence’ in the president, with 46% saying they do not have confidence in him ‘at all’ to improve the state of the country.
