Marches in protest against the rise of the far-right in France are expected in all major cities and many towns around the country this Saturday (June 15). We look at where they have been announced so far.

Thousands of people around the country took to the streets in protest on Monday, June 10 following the victory of Jordan Bardella’s far-right Rassemblement National in the European parliamentary elections

The demonstrations on Monday saw 6,200 protesters in Toulouse, 3,000 in Paris and 2,200 people in Marseille.

Many more protests have been announced for Saturday, June 15, as the political opponents of the far-right prepare to mount a ‘popular front’ in France’s upcoming parliamentary elections on June 30 and July 7.

Where are protests expected?

Paris - Saturday at 14:00

A major protest march supported by several major unions will take place in Paris from 14:00 on Saturday, June 15.

It will go from the emblematic Place de la République to Place de la Bastille and Place de la Nation.

Many thousands of protesters are likely to attend the march, which is organised by the CFDT, CGT,’Unsa, FSU and Solidaires unions.

Marseille - Saturday 14:00

The CGT union has called for “workers” to gather at the Vieux Port in the city centre to protest against “Macron, the far-right and reactionary forces”.

The city has seen ongoing protests since the victory of the Rassemblement National on Sunday.

Lyon - Friday 18:30

The protest organised by several unions and political parties will take place at Place des Terreaux

Toulouse - Saturday 14:00

The protest, organised by an alliance of unions and political parties of the ‘Front Populaire’, will take place on avenue Jean-Jaurès, direction Saint Cyprien
