Sales of raclette machines have jumped as much 300%
Driven by containment and curfew, sales of raclette devices have been soaring in France since the start of winter.
It is well-known that the French love their cheese. But this winter, amid coronavirus lockdowns and health measures, has seen sales of raclette machines jump 300% in Fnac-Darty stores, and between 100% and 200% in Boulanger.
Demand is so high that the Tefal factory in the Savoie has stepped up production to keep up, employing temporary workers and setting up a two-shift system on its four production lines, rather than the usual one-shift hours.
If you are considering buying a raclette machine, there's no need to rush out today. The company has said there is no shortage despite the high demand.
And they are also busy preparing for the chandeleur celebrations, on February 2, when the French traditionally eat crêpes.
