Rhône resident wins €13m on Loto

A Rhône resident has won €13million in the lottery, marking the department’s biggest jackpot of the year (but still not its biggest ever win).

On Saturday night (March 24), the victorious ticket featured all five of the winning numbers (11-26-31-35-44) plus the bonus number nine, picking up the full prize money.

Lottery operator La Française des Jeux has not yet revealed the hometown or identity of the winner, save to confirm that the ticket was purchased in the Rhône.

It is not yet clear if the winner has been in touch to collect their cash, and anyone to have played this weekend is encouraged to double check their ticket.

Despite the huge amount, it is not - unbelievably - the biggest prize to have been brought home in the region.

In November 2017, two colleagues in their forties won €14million between them, in the Est Lyonnais.

Having played the lottery for over 20 years, the winner had asked his friend and colleague to fill in the numbers for the first time ever, as he had been called away on a business trip just ahead of the draw.

The friend clearly had a winning touch, bringing home the jackpot and splitting it between both of them.

Lottery wins are not always so straightforward, however: in late 2017 there were also two cases of “lost” tickets, with official complaints lodged against La Française des Jeux in relation to two separate bar-tabacs accused of taking customers’ winnings.
