Saturday sun and Sunday showers: French weekend weather outlook October 5 - 6

Sunny skies and average temperatures are expected, although Sunday sees a risk of rain for many

Most people will experience a calm and sunny Saturday

France is in store for a milder and calmer weekend than in the previous few weeks, however a risk of rainfall on Sunday means prioritising outdoor plans on Saturday is recommended.

Temperatures will remain around average levels, but in some parts of the south-east will rise to 27C due to the foehn effect.

Friday October 4

Friday will be calm and sunny, except in the south-east, where there is an ongoing risk of storms in Alpes-Maritimes and northern Corsica.

Elsewhere, skies will be mostly sunny, as temperatures hover between 13C and 21C in the afternoon.

In the morning, however, cool winds in the north will see chilly temperatures, as low as 2C in parts of the Orne department.

In the south, the Mistral and Tramontane winds will blow up to 80 km/h.

The south-eastern storms will clear in the evening, paving the way for a warm nightfall along the entire Mediterranean coast.

Temperatures between Perpignan and Nice are expected to be around 16C at 21:00.

No heightened weather warnings are in place, however some lower tier-two alerts remain in place for the stormy weather in the south-east, and possible river flooding in the south-west after recent heavy rainfall.

Saturday October 5

Saturday will see the calm and sunny skies remain for most of the country, although in Brittany and Normandy rain is expected from around midday, making its way down the western coast towards the evening.

Cloudy skies will progressively move eastward, potentially reaching Paris, but the south should be free of any perturbations, particularly along the Mediterranean.

Chilly morning temperatures are again expected in the north – going as low as 3C – but by midday highs of between 12C and 21C are forecast.

Sunday October 6

Cloudy weather will cover more of France on Sunday, including parts of the western coast and into central France.

It will bring rainfall across these areas, which whilst not strong, are likely to come in frequent bursts.

As the day progresses, this rain will eventually move across the country, reaching the German border in the evening.

South of the Garonne river, and along the Mediterranean, the warm weather from Saturday should continue, with sunny skies and temperatures of 20C or more.

In the Pyrénées, temperatures may reach up to 27C on Sunday, as the foehn effect raises them far above normal October averages.

This phenomenon is caused by warm winds coming into contact with mountainsides, causing one side of the mountain to experience heavy rainfall, but the other to have less precipitation in the air, bringing temperatures up.

Forecasts for next week include a fierce cévenol storm in the south at the beginning of the week, which is set to bring 150 mm or rainfall to some parts of the south of France.
