SEE: Beautiful photos of snow in France
Churches, castles, and beaches all covered with dustings of snow after cold spell hit France this week
France is currently in the midst of a ‘cold spell’, with temperatures below 0C across most of the country since the start of the week.
Snowfall has been particularly strong in the north, in Normandy, and around Paris, although has been seen as far south as Landes.
A number of photographs of snowy landscapes have been posted on social media. Below, we share some of our favourites.
Roads covered in snow cause chaos
Roads in the north of France were heavily impacted by the snow on Tuesday, with up to 400 vehicles around Paris ‘blocked’ by the snow.
The images below showing the level of snow on some of the roads in the area show why the snow caused so much disruption.
Picture-perfect snowfall
In Normandy, snowfall was strong on Monday evening, with up to 5cm of snow in certain areas.
The village of Perche in the Eure-et-Loir looked like something from a picturesque postcard on Tuesday morning:
Courville-sur-Eure, dominated by its church in the village centre, also looked sublime with its dusting of snow.
Views were also similar in Brittany, with this shot of popular tourist destination Saint-Malo catching the eye.
The beach at Pléneuf-Val-André, on the northern Breton coastline, was also covered in a mix of snow and sand on Tuesday morning.
Perhaps the most magnificent view was at the famed Château of Versailles, where the palace and its grounds were covered with snow on Tuesday morning.
Commentators noted how the landscape of the garden was enhanced by the snowfall.
Snowfall still strong on Tuesday night, including in south-west
Although the most dramatic images were captured on Tuesday morning, more snow fell overnight, and many people woke up to a second round of snow this (January 10) morning.
One region that perhaps surprisingly saw snow this morning was the south-west of the country.
A small dusting was seen in Bordeaux, with commuters on their way to work treated to an unusual view at this bus stop.
Snow was light, but noticeable, across the Gironde department.
The pick of the views, however, came from Biscarrosse, Landes (just south of Bordeaux), where the beach was covered with a strong dusting of snow.
