French train operator SNCF has now opened bookings for train travel in 2025, with some of the best ‘early bird’ prices now available.

Tickets opened for sale at 06:00 on Tuesday, November 13, for journeys between January 9, and March 30, 2025. The most popular routes, such as Paris-Lyon, Paris-Marseille and Paris-Montpellier, are included in this offer.

International and skiing destinations

Tickets for “European destinations, Ouigo Grande Vitesse, and certain Inoui TGVs are open for journeys up to July 4, 2025”, said SNCF.

This includes destinations in Belgium, Germany, and the UK, which are taking bookings for journeys until May 17, 2025. Journeys to Spain on the TGV InOui and TGV Lyria services have seats available until July 4, 2025.

Similarly, many popular skiing destinations are also included.

This includes direct TGV trains to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, for easy access to the Alps, and Intercités trains serving the Massif Central (Paris-Clermont-Ferrand or Paris-Aurillac), the Alps (Paris-Briançon) and the Pyrenees (Paris-Tarbes and Paris-Latour de Carol).

As a reminder, school holidays for this period in France (the first holiday after the Christmas and New Year period) are as follows:

  • Zone A: February 22 to March 10, 2025

  • Zone B: February 8 to 24, 2025.

  • Zone C: February 15 to March 3, 2025.

Buying your ticket early could enable you to save significantly on travel during popular times, especially at the weekends, said SNCF.

Holiday savings

There are other ways to save too, including through the ‘billet de congé annuel’ scheme, which enables you to save 25% on a return journey within France, once a year. The scheme is aimed at travellers who go away for an annual holiday, including retired people and their families.

To benefit from the scheme, you need to download an online form from this Service Public page, and fill it in. You may need to fill in your family’s details too, and get a signature from your employer, if applicable.
