Soutien Scolaire- tax back tuition
The cost of certain home tutors and firms can be claimed back against tax.
THE cost of certain home tutors and firms can be claimed back against tax.
Despite government reforms giving extra hours of schooling to pupils most in need, home tuition is likely to to continue to be a popular option for parents keen to help their children get ahead.
If you pay a private firm to tutor your child, known as soutien scolaire - you can claim back 50% of tutoring and inscription costs via a deduction from your income tax.
If you do not pay tax (or do not pay enough to cover the 50% rebate) in certain circumstances it is possible to qualify for an equivalent payment. The firm, however, must be an approved one and you must make sure they provide detailed bills to include with your tax declaration.
The government helpline on 08 10 46 76 87 is a good source of advice on such tax credits and other tax matters.
