Start-up delivers French customers their daily bread
Business was launched in response to a survey which found that 92% of French people enjoyed traditional French bread, but that 80% of them no longer visit a boulangerie every morning
A start-up company in northeast France is delivering early-morning fresh baguettes - as well as viennoiseries - to customers' homes.
The business was launched in response to a survey which found that 92% of French people enjoyed traditional French bread, but that 80% of them no longer visit a boulangerie every morning, often because they live several kilometres away.
"There are active customers who no longer have time to go to the bakery ... there are isolated people, the elderly...", Maurice Heitz, co-founder and president of Baguette Box, told France 3, adding that the service also helped local bakers.
Driver Sophie Walter, who delivers about 180 baguettes in and around Marlenheim, Bas-Rhin, to customers every morning, said that deliveries are guaranteed before 6am to customers who have a "baguette-box" outside their homes.
