France is set for a weekend of (mostly) normal weather conditions after a July filled with storms and heatwaves.

Today (August 2) sees several departments continue to face alerts, particularly in the east. However, official warnings for adverse weather will ease on Saturday (August 3) and this will continue into Sunday. See the forecast for each day below.

Friday August 2

Storms are set to hit the centre, south-west, north, and north-east of France on Friday but are not likely to be intense.

As of 09:00, no department is facing heightened storm alerts, although a number are on tier-two yellow warnings.

Throughout the day, storms from the north will move southwards, hitting the Massif Central and the Cévennes, and possibly some Alpine areas.

Three departments – Seine-et-Marne, Vosges, and Meurthe-et-Moselle – are facing heightened river flooding warnings as a result of storms and heavy rainfall earlier in the week.

Along the Mediterranean coastline and Corsica, heightened heatwave warnings remain with temperatures set to reach between 34C and 36C and remain between 20C and 25C overnight .

Saturday August 3

Storms will clear by Saturday morning, ushering in a weekend free of rainfall for almost everyone.

Skies in Normandy and Brittany, especially along the coast, will remain cloudy in the morning and daytime, but no rain is expected.

South of the Loire, skies should be clearer.

Temperatures will be slightly lower than early August averages, but not by a noticeable margin.

Departments in the south-east will continue to face heightened heatwave warnings, as temperatures reach up to 34C in the shade in the afternoon.

Sunday August 4

Conditions on Sunday will remain largely the same, with temperatures in the south and south-west climbing slightly.

In the south-east, heatwave warnings may remain. Check official forecasts on Saturday for confirmation.

Storms moving in from Italy may hit the Alpine border regions, as well as the coastline around Nice, however they are not expected to move further inland.

Next week

Early predictions for next week are for temperatures to remain within August averages, without being excessive, and new heatwave warnings seem unlikely.

Storms are predicted from the south-west to the north-east on Wednesday, however their intensity is not yet known.
