Paris transport workers - until September 9

Workers at the RATP, which manages the Paris public transport services, are on a renewable strike notice until September 9, demanding bonuses for work during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Union-affiliated workers can choose to strike (or not) on any day during this period.

So far there has been no major disruption but travellers are advised to check in advance if using the service.

Teachers – September 10

Unions are calling for a walkout of teachers at nurseries (maternelles) and primary schools (écoles élémentaire) to protest against a new system of standardised assessments for younger students as well as the large class sizes.

Teachers at collèges and lycées are not expected to join the action.

Parents will be informed by Monday September 9 how their school is affected. Note that since school is mandatory, the marie must provide a solution if there are no teachers available for a class.

Medical laboratory workers – September 20 to 23

Several unions representing laboratory workers have announced their intention to strike over a reduction in government funding for the sector.

If the strike goes ahead it is likely that medical laboratories (laboratoires d'analyses médicales) will close or operate at reduced capacity from September 20 to 23.

Private security workers – until September 22

Private security staff are striking every Sunday up to and including September 22.

These workers are often hired on a short-term basis to cover events either in public or private, or for security in places such as shopping centres.

The CFDT union is demanding employees receive an extra 25% for working night shifts, and 50% for working on Sundays.

In addition it says employers are failing to pay the correct amount based on previously agreed terms.

CGT workers - September/October

France's second-largest union the CGT has announced a major 'mobilisation' for the end of September/beginning of October.

Exact details are still unknown, but it is likely to see workers from multiple sectors walk out, as well as public demonstrations.

Future strikes planned

The CGT has called on workers across all sectors to walk out on Tuesday October 1, and may be joined by France's other major unions.

The strike is being called over both the appointment of new prime minister Michel Barnier, as well as austerity measures expected to be included in the upcoming 2025 Finances bill.

Full details of disruption will be made available closer to the date, and it is likely public services across France will see disruption on this day.
