Supermarket Merguez sausages recalled in France due to salmonella fear

The meat was sold in supermarkets such as Carrefour, Intermarché and Casino

Merguez sausages have been recalled across France due to fears they contain the bacteria salmonella. 

If you have bought Merguez sausages recently from a supermarket or a butcher chain, then you should check whether or not they were from the brands Affrais or Despi le charcutier

They have been listed for recall on the RappelConso government recall website, which you can check here.   

The products are the following: 

  • Affrais Merguez sausages sold in bulk from May 22 by Grand Frais, Carrefour, Intermarché, Casino, Provenc’Halles and Boucherie Tinel, lots 143/9003, 144/9003 and 145/9003

  • Despi le Charcutier Merguez sausages sold in packs of five since May 23 by Grand Frais and Provenc’Halles, lots 143/9003, 145/9003, 148/9003 and 149/9003

  • Affrais Merguez sausages sold in packs of five from May 24 by Mangeons Frais, lots 145/9003 and 148/9003

What to do if you have already eaten them?

If you have already consumed these products, then check for symptoms which may include diarrhoea, vomiting, headaches or fever. These symptoms are likely to appear between 6 and 72 hours after consumption. 

If they do appear, go and see a doctor as soon as you can. Symptoms are likely to be worse for young children, pregnant women, people with diminished immune systems and the elderly. 

If no symptoms appear, then you should be fine. 

If you still have any of these products, then it is recommended that you either dispose of them or you have until June 15 to exchange them where you bought them.
