Tour de France 2020 seeks volunteers for Nice Grand Départ

The Tour de France is looking for volunteers to help out with this year’s race, as it prepares to depart from Nice in the south of France on August 29-31.

Three volunteer “packs” are offered, depending on volunteer availability.

They comprise:

  • The “Weekend Grand Départ”, for those who wish to volunteer on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30
  • The “Semaine Grand Départ”, running on the weekdays from Wednesday August 26 to Friday August 28, plus Monday August 31
  • The “Grand Départ”, running across the dates of Wednesday August 26 to Monday August 31

Volunteers can get involved in more than 600 different tasks to help the smooth running of the race, including welcoming and signposting the public, as well as looking after race logistics.

Volunteers will be responsible for managing rider bibs, participant bags, and related events, as well as luggage lockers, and the number of people in the arrival area.

For more information and to apply, would-be volunteers are invited to contact the email address benevolestdf2020@ville-nice.fr, or read more and apply on the dedicated website here.

The call for volunteers comes one week after the amateur version of the professional race, the Étape du Tour, was cancelled - or, as organisers said, “postponed to 2021” - due to Covid-19 safety concerns.

The professional Tour had already been postponed this year due to Covid, and a number of extra health and safety precautions put in place to ensure rider and public safety.
