Trump and Musk invited to an AI summit in France, says Macron

By the time of the summit, Mr Trump will be President of the United States for the second time, while Mr Musk will likely be part of his administration

France has invited President-Elect Donald Trump and his ally, owner of X (formerly Twitter) Elon Musk, to a summit on artificial intelligence set to take place next February 10 and 11, President Macron has said.

Mr Macron announced on Tuesday (November 19) that he would extend the invitation. He made the announcement while in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he is attending the G20 summit, reports Le Figaro.

By the time of the conference, Mr Trump will be President of the United States for the second time, while Mr Musk will likely be part of his administration, after Mr Trump announced his appointment as the head of a commission to cut public spending. 

Mr Musk is also the head of car manufacturer Tesla, space exploration and satellite company SpaceX, and satellite internet firm Starlink.

Macron: ‘Major countries involved invited’ 

The French president also said that he had invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as a representative of China.

“I have invited China, the United States and the major countries involved,” said Mr Macron. Mr Modi “has confirmed that he will be coming [already],” he said. 

Mr Macron added that he would be discussing the issue of AI prior to February’s summit. 

“On December 6, I will have the opportunity to receive a group of American entrepreneurs and academics who are involved in this issue,” he said.
