Two-to-three months of rain to fall in Languedoc region this weekend
The departments of Aude and Hérault in the southwest of the country have been placed on orange alert for rains and floods
Two-to-three months of rain is set to fall over the Languedoc area in southwest France this weekend, weather service Météo-France has warned.
It has placed the departments Aude and Hérault on orange alert for heavy rains and floods.
It describes the rainfall as “atypical” for this time of year, and expects the rain to last until Monday. It comes after a long dry spell.
“Even though it will not reach the levels of intensity experienced in the autumn with this type of weather event, it is advisable to be attentive to the situation by keeping regularly informed,” Météo-France states.
You can follow Météo-France updates on their website or on their Twitter page.

Orange alerts are given when heavy rainfall is expected to affect daily activities.
Roads could be affected, and people are advised not to go close to overflowing bodies of water and to stay indoors as much as possible.
The weather service is describing this weekend’s heavy rain as a Cévenol episode, which is a meteorological phenomenon that mainly occurs around the Cévennes and its surrounding area.
The Cévennes is a region in France, a national park and a range of mountains, located around the south-east edge of the Massif Central.
