Shoppers in France have a few days left to use their points on certain supermarket loyalty cards before they are lost.
Points or money saved on the loyalty cards of three major supermarkets earned in 2024 will expire in the coming days.
If not used before the deadlines, the points will be lost and cannot be used.
Points earned on a Casino loyalty card in 2024 must be used by February 28.
Those on Intermarché and Carrefour loyalty cards must be also be used by this date..
A further deadline next month is taking place for Franprix cards, with points accrued having to be used by March 31.
Points earned on Auchan cards between January and October 31, 2024 had to be used by the end of January 2025, or were otherwise lost.
Points are usually gained by scanning loyalty cards – either physically or through an app – when making purchases.
Each supermarket has a different system for gaining points, which can then be used to take money off of a purchase at the checkout or for another bonus.
Loyalty cards set to change?
Two other major supermarkets have no expiry date for using points earned, but customers must occasionally use the card to benefit from them.
Points on a ‘Carte U’ used in Super-U and other ‘U’ brand stores do not expire, however the card must be used at least once every 13 months or the points expire.
Similarly, holders of an E.Leclerc loyalty card must use it at checkout once every 12 months, although the points do not expire.
If the card has not been used within one year, holders have two further months to scan their card when at the till – to reset this calendar – or claim a voucher for the amount on the card. If they do neither, the points will again be lost.
Some supermarkets are changing how their loyalty card schemes work , in the face of increasing costs and competition. You can read about these changes in our article below.
