Video: French cadet proposes to girlfriend during July 14 Paris parade
The young couple were congratulated by French president Emmanuel Macron

President Emmanuel Macron has congratulated a French couple after a young military cadet proposed to his girlfriend on the Champs-Élysées during France’s Fête nationale (July 14).
“I wish you all the best,” Mr Macron tweeted to the newly engaged couple.
Maximilien, 26, a cadet at the military school École militaire des aspirants de Coëtquidan in Guer (Morbihan), popped the question to his surprised girlfriend Justine just before going on parade on Paris’ most famous avenue.
She happily said yes, to the warm applause of onlookers.
A video of the moment was captured and posted on the French army’s Twitter account, Armée de Terre.

The French army tweeted their congratulations, saying “anything is possible with our soldiers on our national day”.
“I've been thinking about it for two months," Maximilien told Ouest-France.
“Justine is passionate about photography, and I knew that she would come for the July 14 parade. Making a request on the most beautiful avenue in the world remains a memorable moment for both of us,” he said.
