Weather in France October 21 - 25: Forecast by area this week

Warm and calm but some rain and storms ahead. Predictions for sun, storm, rain and temperatures across the next 5 days

Most of the week will be calm, a break from two weeks of storms
Published Modified

It will be a comparatively calm week in France after the recent passages of storms Kirk and Leslie wreaked havoc across much of the country.

Temperatures will also be warmer than average until the weekend.

However, the remnants of Storm Ashley will affect the north at the beginning of the week, and towards the weekend, an Atlantic storm is forecast to hit the south and Mediterranean.

Monday October 21

Warmer than average temperatures will cover France, generally south of the Loire, bringing temperatures of 20C to 25C, around 4C higher than usual for the season.

Sunny skies are also expected for these areas, although there will be some clouds along the Mediterranean coast.

A handful of departments in central and south-west France are still on alert for river flooding, after storm Leslie brought abundant rainfall, but warnings are not severe.

In the north, Storm Ashley will bring heavy rain from Brittany to the Belgian border, particularly affecting Normandy and areas close to the English Channel.

Up to 50 mm of rain may fall in Normandy, however rainfall will stop before midnight.

Tuesday October 22

Showers are forecast in a belt across France, stretching from the south-west to the German border, however rainfall is not expected to be heavy.

In the south, the Mistral and Tramontane winds will progressively get stronger throughout the day, but will not exceed usual autumn speeds.

In the north and north-west, however, skies will be sunny from late afternoon, as storm Ashley is pushed out of France.

Wednesday October 23

Wednesday is set to be the ‘nicest’ day of the week.

No rainfall is expected anywhere in the country, and although clouds and slight fog may exist in the morning, by the afternoon it will lift, being replaced by sunny skies.

Temperatures will still remain slightly higher than average, although if outside, will feel warmer than what your phone may tell you, due to the strength of the sun.

Nationally, highs will still be around 2C warmer than usual for the season.

Thursday October 24

The calm weather will be broken up by the arrival of rains on both the Brittany and Mediterranean coasts on Thursday, as well as a generally cloudy atmosphere across France.

In the Mediterranean, these rains could turn into another bout of storms, particularly in the south-east.

Despite this, temperatures will reach up to 20C nationally, and 25C in the south-west, which will be unaffected by the weather patterns mentioned above (at least on Thursday).

Friday October 25

The arrival of a low pressure Atlantic weather pattern spells the beginning of a wet weekend for most of France, predominantly the western coast.

In the south-east, the risk of storms is heightened, although as of now the chances of another cévenol-style storm are slim.

Temperatures will drop alongside the rain’s arrival, dropping below the national average throughout the weekend, before beginning to rise again the following Monday (October 28).
