Where to see EU vote result unfold
The result of the EU Referendum is expected at 'about breakfast time' on Friday - but local and regional results will be revealed through the night.
For anyone keen to see the results as they come in, there is no shortage of coverage on BBC, ITV, and Sky. Programmes are scheduled to start at around the time polling stations close at 10pm UK time.
Meanwhile, the internet will be awash with updates. The Electoral Commission is encouraging the use of the #EURefResultshashtag when tweeting results.
Unlike a General Election, there will be no exit poll after ballot boxes close to give a hint of unfolding results, as broadcasters have determined that the margin for error is too great in a ballot that is considered too close to call.
Sky News has commissioned a survey asking people it has already polled to reveal how they voted, but this is not an exit poll.
Votes will be counted by hand at 382 local centres. The first figures revealed will be turnout numbers - which should start coming in from around 10.30pm. With a record 46.5million voters registered for the referendum, turnout is expected to be high.
By 12.30am UK time (1.30am in France), the first results should be declared. Most local results should be in by three hours later, while the last local results expected at around 6am Friday (UK time).
These local results will then be collated into 12 regional totals, which will be declared, along with the national result of the referendum, by chief counting officer Jenny Watson in Manchester.
While local counting officers can order local recounts if a specific issue is discovered, the national result can only be challenged by a judicial review.
