Which Cora supermarkets in France are rebranding to Carrefour?

The changeover will be gradual and in three stages, with no job losses expected

A total of 60 Cora supermarkets across France are being rebranded to Carrefour from today (October 1, 2024), after Carrefour acquired the group in July 2023.

The transfer to Carrefour will happen in three stages.

  • 19 stores will change from October 1

  • 20 stores from mid-October

  • 21 stores from the end of October

Gradual change

The supermarkets and hypermarkets affected are expected to remain open throughout, with a gradual changeover between branded goods and new items, Carrefour has said in a press release.

First of all the branding will be replaced, and then the Carrefour product range will be gradually introduced on the shelves.

“Branding and working clothes will then be used to finalise the changeover, before a major sales event to celebrate the new brand,” Carrefour said.

These “sales events” will happen:

  • Stage 1: October 25

  • Stage 2: November 5

  • Stage 3: November 19

Only one Cora supermarket has closed: Bourgoin-Jallieu (Isère), which was deemed not profitable enough by Cora itself.

Carrefour says it does not have any plans to end working contracts with any of the Cora staff: “[We are] very happy to hand over the Carrefour brand to the 17,000 employees who have joined us.” This is all of the Cora workers, who will now become Carrefour workers.

The changeover comes one day after it was confirmed that 21 supermarkets under the brand Casino are set to close in France after failing to find a buyer, with almost 1,000 people expected to lose their jobs.
