Motorists in France could see fuel prices fall this summer, as over 200 service stations change hands from BP to Esso.

EG Group, which runs 254 French petrol stations, chose not to renew its contract with the British company BP, instead opting for Esso, part of US multinational ExxonMobil, to supply its fuel.

Esso will match the price of suppliers such as Total or supermarkets, Le Parisien reports.

Selim Maraslioglu, EG Group country manager for France, told the paper the company aims to provide more competitive pricing for customers.

By the end of the year it is expected that all of the service stations will have been reallocated, bringing the number of Esso stations to 800, or 8% of the French market.
