Widow’s bid for older drivers to sit medical
Checks for older drivers should be more rigorous
A widow is fighting for a new law enforcing older drivers to face an automatic medical to check they can drive after her husband was killed when an elderly driver pulled out of a side road in front of his motorbike.
Karine Pouget, from Hyères, Var, said: “The woman said she hadn’t seen him. This type of accident should not happen.
“If drivers are not fit to drive they should not be driving.
“If a test showed the driver was not able to drive safely they would lose their licence. If there was no health reason they would have to do a two-day course to bring their driving back to a safe level.”
