Can I cross French border to go shopping?
Popping to the shops is not on the list of 'compelling reasons' for crossing France's borders
Not for shopping - but you can for other reasons. Although the borders between European nations remain open during France's second lockdown, only those with "compelling" reasons to cross borders are allowed to do so.
The government permits "travel between home and place of work or universities (or institutions of higher education) for students or adult education centres and business trips cannot be postponed".
An attestation dérogatoire de déplacement, with the "Entre ma maison et mon travail" box ticked is required.
Residents in the Bas-Rhin and Grand-Est region can no longer go to Germany to shop, for example, as it is not deemed a compelling reason, and must stick to local stores, Josiane Chevalier, the region's prefect told France Bleu.
Likewise, Spain's Aragon region has strictly limited travel to and from France, according to the Gendarmerie de Haute Garonne, after going into lockdown until 9 November 2020, following the declaration of a state of emergency by Spanish authorities.
At the time of writing, Catalonia border routes at Melles in Comminges, and Less in the Val d’Aran, remained open, but shops were operating at less than one-third their capacity.
