Can I go horse riding in France under the semi-lockdown Covid rules?
The rules differ depending on if you are an official member of France’s horse riding society
Reader question: Can we go horse riding? The riding stables we normally use are more than 10km from our home. What attestation box do we cross if so?
It is still possible to go horse riding as it is an individual sport but if you are not a member of the Fédération Française d'Equitation (FFE) then you will have to remain within 10km of your home.
For non-members, you can go horse riding if you stay within 10km of your home, keep a two-metre distance between yourself and other people and do not gather in groups of more than six people.
You can either carry with you proof of your address - read our article on what proof is eligible here - or you can fill out an attestation de déplacement, ticking the option: Activité physique, de plein air, promenade (dans un rayon de 10 kilomètres autour de votre domicile).
If you are a member of the FFE, you will be able to ride anywhere within the department you live or within 30km of your home if you cross into a different department as you live close to the boundary.
In this case, you will need to carry two forms.
The first is the government’s official attestation, the same form as mentioned above. However, this time you should choose the option: Santé (consultations et soins).
You will also need an attestation provided to you by your equestrian centre.
First, you need to book a horse riding session, which you can do on the FFE’s web portal. Then you will need to print off the special attestation and take it with you to your equestrian centre and have it signed by the manager of the stables.
You can find a full guide of how to do this at this link (in French). For any further questions you should contact your equestrian centre directly.
