Reader Question: Is is possible to use a télépéage badge with a hire car? We often use hire cars for our holidays around France, but have a télépéage badge

Digital toll badges (télépéage badges) are usually linked to a user account, and not a vehicle itself.

This can change depending on the type of subscription and company you obtain the badge from, so you should check the conditions of your subscription.

Many companies that provide télépéage badges including the Ulys and Fulli brands (offered by Vinci Autoroutes and APRR/AREA) allow customers to order multiple badges for their subscription, as well as mounting brackets for different vehicles.

These can be ordered both at the time of creating your account and after, but additional charges may be incurred depending on how many you order.

Concerning the use of a télépéage badge in a rental car, many hire companies including France Cars state you can use your own badge when driving a hire car, provided you install and uninstall them at the correct times before and after driving.

Some other rental car services will provide their own télépéage that you can use in conjunction with a hired vehicle.

Make sure you do not have two active télépéage badges at the same time when passing through a toll as they will both be charged, causing you to pay twice.

It is best to check with the hire company when renting your vehicle what the best option is.
