France voluntary quarantine rules on trips less than 14 days

Visits to France from the UK have now returned to normal in that you can come and stay for as short or as long as you want, depending on your residence status.

This means that coming to France for a few days is permitted and the 14-day voluntary quarantine has no effect on this. You are asked to self-isolate for the days you are in France but this is a request - one you are free to follow or not.

A government helpline worker told Connexion: “The voluntary quarantine is not an obligation. You are free to choose to do it or not.”

You are able to go out and there are no checks on those taking part in voluntary quarantine. France says it is leaving the choice up to the public's 'individual sense of responsibility'.

In any case, you must respect virus protection measures, including social distancing, and safety guidelines from the government.

However, if you travel back to the UK, you will need to isolate for 14 days there under current rules. The UK’s quarantine rule will be reviewed on June 28 but currently states that:

• Everyone, including British people returning from holiday, must isolate for 14 days upon arrival. If your stay is shorter than 14 days you should self-isolate for the entire duration.
• You need to complete an online form giving your contact details and place of isolation.
• You will not be allowed to go out, even for food shopping unless no one else can do it for you. You should avoid contact with others, and not see or meet anyone for 14 days.
• There may be police checks and you can be fined £1,000 if you do not respect the rules.
