New energy cheque in France: you may need to apply this year
An estimated one million eligible households will not receive the cheque automatically for ‘technical reasons’
French inflation bonus: €100 sum sent to more people this week
Now that payments to private sector employees, self-employed workers and bursary students are complete, the CAF will begin distributing to eligible people
People who receive benefits from the Caisse d’allocations familiales (Caf) and who are eligible for France’s ‘inflation bonus’ payment should receive their one-off €100 sum from tomorrow (January 20).
The inflation bonus is an exceptional, tax-free payment which was announced by Prime Minister Jean Castex in October, in an attempt to address rapid increases in the price of living.
It is being rolled out to up to 38 million people whose income is less than €2,000 a month.

The ‘inflation-compensation’ should help cover increases in petrol and diesel costs, as one person travelling 14,000km per year in their car is predicted to see their annual fuel spend go up by €80 if prices continue to climb, as well as rises in home energy and food.
The bonus is not dependent on you owning a car.
Eligible private sector workers, the self-employed and students on bursaries should have already received their payments, and this week it is the turn of those who receive support from the Caf.
This includes beneficiaries of the revenu de solidarité active (RSA), the prestation partagée de l’éducation de l’enfant à taux plein (PreParE) and the allocation aux adultes handicapés (AAH).
Eligible students who do not receive a bursary will also receive their payment.
In order to qualify for the bonus, people must have been receiving benefits from the CAF during the month of October 2021.
People who receive the inflation bonus should not declare it on their next income statement, as this could tip them over the maximum threshold for receiving their benefits and defeat the object of the tax-free sum.
Although CAF will make its inflation compensation payments tomorrow, the bonus will not necessarily be immediately visible in your bank account.
This is because it may take some time to clear, so do not worry if you have to wait a few days before you receive it in your account.
