Has Eurotunnel stopped its Frequent Traveller ticket scheme?
Readers have encountered problems signing up for popular discount scheme.
The summer holiday season in 2020 is set to be like no other, as countries impose health measures in response to coronavirus.
Eurotunnel is no exception. Shuttles are operating regularly between France and the UK, but some shops at the terminals remain closed, as do Flexiplus lounges. Toilet facilities on the shuttles, too, are unavailable.
The company warned on its website that online booking services are running slowly due to demand, and phone and live chat lines are also 'extremely busy'. Eurotunnel has said that it is bringing in extra staff to assist bookings for customers.
It has also decided - due to exceptional demand and some capacity constraints caused by the current health measures - to suspend its popular Frequent Traveller scheme, which allows customers to buy a book of tickets in advance and use them to travel on Eurotunnel services, subject to certain conditions, at a discount.
Standard tickets and fares are available for booking as usual.
Customers who already hold Frequent Traveller tickets will be able to book and use them as usual, subject to available capacity for that ticket type.
A spokesman for Eurotunnel told Connexion that the decision to suspend Frequent Traveller tickets to new customers was made 'to protect the scheme for those who were already signed up' because of the 'volume' of bookings.
"The volume of bookings and the number of people taking up tickets meant that spaces were at a premium. To protect those who already have that ticket type, we chose to close it down to new customers for a short time.
"At some point, the booking curve will come down."
Anyone travelling from the UK to France, or vice versa, on Eurotunnel should complete a health declaration before their journey and have it with them when they travel. It must be presented to transportation companies, before boarding and to border control authorities on request.
