Peugeot, Tesla cars recalled in France as faults raise risk of crashes
Car recalls are not uncommon in France. This latest one includes Tesla Models S and 3, and Peugeot 2008s and 208s
Two models of Tesla cars and two models of Peugeot cars have been recalled in France due to faults that could increase the risk of accidents.
The recall covers Tesla Model S cars and Tesla Model 3 cars produced between 2014 to 2021 due to “fragile bonnets”.
Peugeot is recalling its 2008 and 208 models sold between July 3 2019 and September 2020, due to an electrical fault.
It is not yet known how many vehicles are affected by the recall.
Car recalls are common in France and around the world, and are becoming more common as the vehicles become more electronic than mechanical.
On January 27 this year, 15 models of cars, including Mercedes, Renaults and Toyotas, were recalled in France.
The Tesla recall
The recall for the Tesla models was put out by the European Commission through its alert system Safety Gate.
French recall site Rappel Conso states:
“At high speeds, the air intake between the bonnet and the radiator grill causes the bonnet to vibrate.”
It says this can lead to the bonnet’s latch becoming separated from the vehicle, causing the bonnet to open, an outcome that “increases the risk of an accident”.

The Peugeot recall
Rappel Conso states that due to an electric fault, the vehicles’ electricity could cut out while the car is being driven.
It can also be impossible after this to restart the car for several minutes, making it impossible to move it. These two factors mean there is an increased risk of accidents, Rappel Conso states.
The vehicles were recalled by Peugeot.
Stellantis, the parent company of the former PSA Peugeot Citroen group, said that this type of recall was normal and frequent.
"As soon as there is a particular problem, we warn customers by mail, and they can go consult directly with their dealer," a representative of the group told actu.fr.
