Having the correct bank details means that you can more easily receive tax rebates or pay any extra taxes that you owe
France’s income tax period is closed for the year but there are still deadlines approaching for making sure your bank details are up to date on your online portal.
This is so that you can either automatically receive a tax rebate or so that the government can take extra money that is due, in the case that you have underpaid in taxes.

Many people will not receive a rebate or be due extra, so this does not necessarily apply to them, although it is still useful to ensure your bank details are up to date.
A rebate may be paid if, for example, you have been paying an automatic monthly payment, prélèvement automatique, towards your annual tax bill and it is then the calculations show you should have been paying slightly less.
If your bank details are not up to date you should receive a letter from the government with instructions on how to proceed.

Tax rebates
In the case that you are due a tax rebate, you have until July 1 to make sure that your bank details are up to date on the tax website’s online portal.
Any rebate will, in most cases, be automatically sent to you on July 21 or August 2.
Extra payments
In the case that you are still due money in taxes, you have until September 13 to make sure your bank details are up to date.
If the amount due is equal or less than €300 then the sum will be taken automatically from your account in one go from September 26.
If the sum due is more than that then the money will be taken in four intervals on September 27, October 27, November 25 and December 27.
Updating your bank details
To update your bank details you can either connect to your online account - espace particulier or espace professionnel - on impots.gouv.fr. You’ll need your numéro fiscal unless you have set up a login through FranceConnect.
Then go to the tab ‘gérer mon prélèvement à la source’ and choose the option ‘mettre à jour vos coordonnées bancaires’.
