UK quarantine for 'at risk' countries: Is anyone exempt?
If the UK does reinstate quarantine for arrivals to France would anyone be exempt?
We do not know for sure at this stage that this is going to happen, despite many media reports circulating last week that UK ministers were considering this if Covid-19 case numbers continue to rise in France.
No date has been set for an announcement on whether or not there will be quarantine for travellers from France into the UK, but the end of this week was suggested as it would coincide with the weekly covid-19 surveillance report the UK government publishes every Friday.
This is a list of people who are exempt from quarantine from countries where it is already in place.
It includes diplomatic staff, people with jobs involving transport between the two countries, such as air pilots, and other essential workers.
It also includes people who live outside the UK but work in the UK and travel between their country of residence and the UK at least once a week and those who live in the UK but work in another country at least once a week.
They will not have to self-isolate if they go to or from England, Wales or Northern Ireland, but will have to do so if their work or home is in Scotland.
