A major recall of raw milk, unpasteurised Morbier cheeses sold at several major French supermarkets has been issued by the French consumer protection agency due to their potential contamination with E coli

The Morbier cheeses made by the Jean Perrin brand were sold throughout France at major supermarkets including Intermarché, Casino, Monoprix and Super U.

The French consumer protection agency Rappel Conso raised the alert on January 24 over the cheeses, which were sold between mid-November 2024 and the end of January 2025.

“Toxigenic Escherichia coli shiga (STEC) can cause diarrhoea, sometimes bloody, abdominal pain and vomiting, with or without fever, within a week of eating contaminated products,” warns Rappel Conso.

“These symptoms may be followed (in 5 to 8% of cases) by severe kidney complications, mainly in children.”

The producer of the cheese, Jean Perrin, has set up an information number for concerned consumers: 03 81 62 06 29.
