Legendary rocker Sir Mick Jagger visited the British Embassy in Paris last night (July 24) to help welcome the UK’s Olympic team to Paris.
Sir Mick was joined by Princess Anne, herself a former Olympian, and president of the British Olympic Association at the event, hosted by British Ambassador Dame Menna Rawlings.
Among the attendees were swimmer Tom Daley and rower Helen Glover, who have been picked as the team’s flagbearers – they will carry the flag during a flotilla procession which will make its way down the Seine on Friday for the opening of the games.
In a speech, Dame Menna welcomed the athletes as fellow “ambassadors” for the UK, saying “you represent the best of the UK on the international scene”.
She added: “Let’s carry with us the Olympic ideals of excellence, friendship and respect, and let’s be inspired by the magnificent examples of dedication and triumph which will be unfolding in the weeks to come.”
