Warmer than average: French weekly weather outlook February 10 - 14

Rain is forecast in the south on several days this week

A grey week is in store for most areas even if temperatures are slightly above normal for mid-February
Published

A grey but otherwise unremarkable week of weather is in store for France after the recent snow and rain.

Some showers are expected, but not in significant amounts except for in parts of the Cévennes mountains.

Temperatures will be around 2C higher than national averages throughout the week although they will begin to drop on Friday and are expected to fall falling below average at the weekend.

Monday February 10

The week will begin with showers in the north of France, leading to potential – but light – snowfall in higher altitudes of Normandy and northern France.

Snow may fall at 200m and higher, but will not settle.

Showers will also hit central France.

Elsewhere, skies will be grey, with the exception of some sunshine in coastal Brittany.

Temperatures will be warmest in the south-west, up to 15C in Toulouse and Bordeaux and 18C in Biarritz, and slightly cooler along the Mediterranean, despite the grey skies.

Tuesday February 11

A bout of rain will push from the Mediterranean coast up to the German border, impacting areas from Nice to Strasbourg.

Rainfall in the Cévennes mountains will be stronger than elsewhere, but not as heavy as over the weekend, and meteorologists are not calling it an épisode cévenol (where short bursts of extremely heavy rain hits the valleys).

Small bursts of sunshine in the west will be seen as the day progresses, but elsewhere skies will again be grey, with no rain forecast in Normandy or the north.

Fog is expected in the morning in parts of the north.

The south-west will remain grey, although temperatures may reach 20C in some areas.

Wednesday February 12

Rain will continue in the south-east, pushing across much of the Mediterranean. It will be persistent but not heavy.

The south-west will also see rain move in from the Pyrénées, causing temperatures to drop to around 13C.

Temperatures elsewhere will rise slightly and overall Wednesday is set to be the warmest day of the week.

National average temperatures will reach just over 8C, more than 2C higher than usual for this time of year.

Skies across the north will be sunnier – if still partially cloudy – with highs of 10C in most of France except near the German and Belgian borders.

Thursday February 13

Clear skies will return to the south-east as rain ends, however the brief sunshine of Wednesday across the rest of France will not continue with skies remaining grey throughout.

Light rain across the south-west is forecast, as well as across the Pyrénées, although it will be dry elsewhere.

Friday February 14

It will be mild in the south, although a dry and cold wind north of the Seine will bring chilly temperatures to the area.

There may be a slight risk of snow in the north but, as at the beginning of the week, it is unlikely to settle.

National temperatures will begin to see a drop, falling by around 1C or 2C compared to temperatures on Thursday, before dropping further over the weekend and into the start of next week.
