UK passport fees set to rise: How much extra for Britons abroad?
The price changes will come into force from April 10

Costs to renew a UK passport are set to rise across the board next month.
They are still subject to approval from parliament but are expected to be approved, and will affect everyone whether renewing in the UK or from abroad.
The price rises will come into force from April 10, however passports renewed before the deadlines will benefit from current rates.
The changes are:
Standard online applications made from within the UK will rise to £94.50 for adults (up from from £88.50) and to £61.50 for children (up from £57.50)
Postal applications will increase to £107 for adults (up from £100) and to £74 for children (up from £69)
Premium Service (one day) applications from within in the UK will rise to £222 for adults (up from £207.50) and to £189 for children (up from £176.50)
Standard online application when applying from overseas – applicable for those renewing from France – will rise to £108 for adults (up from £101) and to £70 for children (up from £65.50)
Standard paper applications for overseas passports will increase to £120.50 for adults (up from £112.50) and £82.50 for children (up from £77)
“The new fees will help the Home Office to continue to move towards a system that meets its costs through those who use it, reducing reliance on funding from general taxation,” the government says on its official website announcing the increases.
“The government does not make any profit from the cost of passport applications,” it adds.
Most passports renewed within three weeks
The government advises renewing a passport well in advance of travel plans, to take into consideration any extended application times.
In 2024 however, 99.7% of UK-based standard passport applications were successfully completed within three weeks, the government said.
Information for how many international passport deliveries were completed in this timeframe is not available, but a Connexion staff member who renewed their UK passport from France in 2024 saw the document arrive in under three weeks.
